There are ways to fight Trump’s 25%

Good news, Justin Trudeau seems in good shape. Canada will respond dollar for dollar. Canada’s first response would target American imports with an annual value of $37 billion. A second wave could target an additional $110 billion.

Good plan. Doing nothing and acting only on the diplomatic front would be the equivalent of watching a parade go by while turning your cheek. We must therefore, even if our response does not have the same scope, we also need to damage the American economy.

The European Union, for its part, announces an outstretched hand towards China. If anyone doubted that the election of Trump would move the geopolitical scene… especially since China is also suffering from Trump’s threats of tariffs of 60%…

What actions can we take as citizens?

During the pandemic, we promoted buying local in order to support our local businesses and businesses. Although we have been made aware, we must admit that good habits have faded somewhat with the return to normal.

Obviously, as a citizen we don’t carry much weight, but the sum of a multitude of small actions taken by a large number of people can make a difference.

We can kill two birds with one stone by boycotting “made in USA” but above all, by encouraging the local economy. By purchasing Quebec and Canadian products, we encourage local entrepreneurs and keep our economy moving.

Don’t buy American cars. Buy Quebec mattresses. Avoid Costco and Walmart for a while. Don’t buy American at the grocery store. Do you have any other ideas?
