The man caught in an avalanche in Fionnay has died

Saturday January 18, 2025, a ski hiker was seriously injured in Fionnay, after being swept away by an avalanche in the Mauvoisin region (VS). His teammate, equipped with a victim detector system, was able to locate him before help arrived, but he was seriously injured.

This 27-year-old Swiss man was airlifted to Sion hospital. He died in this establishment on January 21, announced the Valais cantonal police. Which underlines the need for increased vigilance in the mountains, particularly with the forecast snowfall, which could further increase the risk of avalanches.
