Cameras to strengthen security

Faced with escalating threats such as violence or the introduction of narcotics into educational establishments, provincial directorates under the aegis of the Ministry of National Education took action, actively working to equip schools with surveillance cameras and considerably strengthen security systems to ensure a safe and peaceful educational environment.

Indeed, provincial directorates are redoubled efforts to strengthen infrastructure and security systems within educational establishments, by deploying surveillance cameras and providing surveillance services, revealed the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berrada, in a response to a written question from the parliamentary group of the Popular Movement (MP) in the House of Representatives.

As part of a strategic strengthening of coordination and cooperation to counter various harmful phenomena in schools, an agreement was established between the national education sector, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Youth, he said.

And to add: “ This ambitious agreement aims to solidify collaboration in several crucial areas, in particular by ensuring the health and protection of pupils, students and teaching staff. This is achieved through an active fight against criminal acts in and around schools, in partnership with educational leaders, parent-teacher associations, and civil society actors.« .

He indicated that his department is making all necessary efforts to develop and boost monitoring and surveillance mechanisms, by establishing listening and mediation cells, as well as monitoring cells. It is committed to strengthening the skills of their coordinators, while taking charge of or directing the situations identified to the appropriate services, whether they relate to the health, security or judicial fields.

Furthermore, educational establishments undertake, in accordance with the administrative and legal frameworks in force, to adopt immediate and appropriate measures for each situation observed or reported.

« In this context, it is essential to salute the exemplary synergy between the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, and the Ministry of the Interior, via the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). This collaboration gave rise to specialized teams which carry out patrols around schools to stem violence and crime.“said Berrada.

In addition, he indicated that this dedication translates into the proactive identification of schools where violence is predominant, and by the appointment of police chiefs and regional and provincial security officials to lead the campaign to combat deviant behavior.

By adopting a strategy exhaustive to address the problem of violence in schools, whether it attacks students, administrative and teaching staff, or educational infrastructures, the ministry has deployed “ educational mechanisms promoting the values of tolerance, democracy, human rights, citizenship, as well as the virtues of citizenship, integrity, transparency, merit, solidarity, and the culture of respect rights and duties“, specified the minister.

According to the manager, these principles are integrated into both educational programs and extracurricular activities. However, despite these concerted efforts to prevent and combat these undesirable behaviors through various means and partnerships, the need for ineffable coordination, increased vigilance, proactive mobilization and continued awareness, involving both families, the government administrations concerned, as well as the institutions, organizations and components of civil society in relation to this mistrust. This is imperative for schools to fully fulfill their educational and training role, shaping generations imbued with the values of tolerance, openness, listening and dialogue, while immunizing them against various harmful phenomena.
