Ibrahima Dème, Farba Ngom and agricultural debt under debate

Hello and welcome to Senego’s morning show this Monday, January 20, 2025. Today we’re diving into a roundup of the articles that sparked the most discussion overnight. On the menu, political analysis, judicial support and clarifications on agricultural issues. Here are the key subjects that drive the Senegalese debate.

First of all, former magistrate Ibrahima Hamidou Dème spoke about the eight months of governance of the Pastef regime. In an interview with L’Observateur, Dème severely criticizes the slow pace of expected reforms, particularly in the areas of corruption, clientelism and the management of public resources. According to him, the desired ruptures are far from being achieved, which constitutes a great disappointment for those who hoped for significant development following the National Conference and the Cnri. Find his full analysis here.

In legal matters, Farba Ngom benefits from considerable support for his defense. The Takku Wallu Senegal coalition has mobilized a team of six renowned lawyers, including former ministers, to strengthen its line of defense. This legal deployment underlines the importance of the support enjoyed by the deputy mayor in this delicate context. For more details, click here.

Finally, on the agricultural level, Minister Mabouba Diagne took the floor to clarify misunderstandings regarding an alleged cancellation of the debts of rice producers. He made it clear that he never promised such a measure, instead insisting on solutions of moratorium and strengthening of guarantees.
