After more than 15 months of war, it will not be easy to restore the health system in Gaza, the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned on Sunday. “Meeting the enormous health needs and restoring the health system in Gaza will be a complex and difficult task, given the scale of destruction, operational complexity and constraints involved», Wrote Mr. Tedros on X.
The WHO “calls on all parties to respect their commitment to fully implement the ceasefire agreement and to continue working towards lasting peace“, he added.
Around fifteen hospitals partially operational
The WHO recently estimated at more than $10 billion the amount needed to put the health system back on its feet in the Palestinian territory relentlessly bombarded by the Israeli army since the attacks by the Islamist movement Hamas on October 7, 2023.
