The tax review follows a pure technical methodology based on neutral criteria

Fouzi Lekjaa, the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, wanted to clarify the tax procedures put in place by the government during a session in the House of Representatives today. He affirmed that tax control is based on a strictly technical methodology, governed by objective and neutral criteria, excluding any human intervention. This approach aims to reassure all taxpayers about the fairness and transparency of the procedures.

These declarations intervene to correct preconceived ideas according to which the tax revision would be used as a tool of “political reprisals”. Lekjaa was keen to dispel these misunderstandings, stressing that tax audits are carried out in a professional and impartial manner, without discrimination or targeting.

Taxpayer confidence and convincing results

The minister also praised the confidence placed by taxpayers in the current government, a confidence which is reflected, according to him, in the results of the voluntary tax regularization initiative launched as part of last year’s finance law. This initiative enabled many taxpayers to regularize their tax situation, thus generating an impressive amount of 127 billion dirhams.

Lekjaa recalled that the tax measures adopted by Aziz Akhannouch’s government since 2023 are designed to be inclusive and open to all investments, without targeting a particular company or sector. The main objective of these measures is to broaden the tax base and resolve problems associated with the creation of subsidiaries by already existing companies.

A technical and neutral approach

By emphasizing the technical and neutral nature of tax controls, Lekjaa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to guaranteeing fair and transparent taxation. He explained that tax review procedures are fully automated and based on objective data, eliminating any risk of bias or subjective human intervention.

This clarification comes in a context where taxpayer trust in tax institutions is essential to encourage voluntary compliance and stimulate investment. By emphasizing neutrality and objectivity, the government aims to strengthen this trust and promote a healthy and fair business climate.
