Questions surrounding a possible suspension of pension reform

Easier said than implemented. For several days, the idea of ​​suspending the pension reform has emerged thanks to negotiations between the government and part of the left. At this stage, nothing has been decided, assure two sources within the executive, stressing that it is appropriate to wait for the general policy declaration delivered on Tuesday, January 14, by the Prime Minister, François Bayrou, at the National Assembly. But if this hypothesis, considered by the team in power at the request of the Socialist Party (PS), is confirmed, it raises many practical and legal questions.

The law of April 14, 2023 seeks to keep workers in employment longer, in particular by gradually increasing the legal retirement age from 62 to 64, “at the rate of three months per generation”. So, since 1is September 2023, people born between the beginning of September 1961 and the end of December 1961 must (with some exceptions) be at least 62 years and three months old to obtain payment of their pension. Those born in 1962 are required to have reached the minimum age of 62 years and six months. And so on up to people born from the beginning of 1968: they will have to wait until they are 64e birthday to retire.
