Young French Internet users have taken to generative artificial intelligence. Help (or cheat…) with homework, but also discussion on all subjects, bots have entered the daily lives of 18-25 year olds.
If generative AI sparks a lot of debate and turmoil, that doesn’t stop young French people from taking it up. A study carried out by the Heaven agency, and taken up by The Echoesindicates that 39% of them use an AI at least once a day, 37% once a week. The vast majority of Internet users aged 18 to 25 use a bot – and these figures, obtained from 251 people aged 18 to 25, have doubled (!) in six months.
Young people optimistic about the future of AI
89% of requests concern the search for information, whether for studies or work, which are equal. Writing, translation, text correction, AI is clearly widely used for homework, so much so that teachers stop giving them “ because they are made by AI », according to Heaven! On a more positive level, “ these tools can also reduce inequalities, helping to understand », Adds the study.
Young Internet users also use AI for other purposes, such as personalized recommendations (recipes, outings, etc.) or simply to chat. 45% of those surveyed agree with the idea of talking about everything and nothing with an AI. And 35% do it with voice: it is true that the improvements made to the voice versions are astonishingly realistic, as is the case with the advanced voice mode of ChatGPT — also in French.
Through these casual discussions, young people seek professional or… sentimental advice. Without the fear of judgment, it is certainly easier to open up to an AI, but beware of hallucinations! ChatGPT is the bot of choice (76% of young people use it), followed by myAI integrated into Snapchat (47%) and Gemini (37%). Google must also observe this type of survey very closely: the web giant clearly sees that the traditional search engine model has taken a hit in the wing.
86% of young people who use AI say they are optimistic: for them, this technology will improve their daily lives, even if 68% think that AI will replace jobs.
