A man injured by gunshot in Lévis

Around 10:45 p.m., several calls were made to 911 regarding gunshots in the parking lot of the Confort Inn hotel on rue des Rivières, in the Saint-Nicolas sector.

For Justin Labrie, receptionist at the hotel, it was an evening like any other. Several hockey teams were staying in the establishment and some parents of players were in the lobby at the time of the events.

Alarmed by gunshots and screams outside, the crowd headed into the building’s parking lot. “We were wondering what the noise was, I thought it was a luggage cart that had fallen, but someone shouted: he was pulled,” the receptionist told the Sun.

A bloodied man was on the ground.

In shock, Mr. Labrie called 911, then went to get the first aid kit from reception. Customers then provided first aid to the victim.

The man was transported to a hospital for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds. “We do not fear for our lives,” confirms Jean-Sébastien Levan, spokesperson for the Lévis City Police Department (SPVL).

Accompanied

According to information collected by the Soleilthe victim had checked in at the hotel reception the day before, accompanied by a man. Two rooms were allegedly reserved in the victim’s name.

At the time of the events, the man, who accompanied the victim, was in the hotel lobby. In panic, he called a loved one.

Organized crime?

A long weapon was found by SPVL police officers on the ground, further away in the parking lot. “We are talking about a rifle or a machine gun,” specifies the spokesperson.

According to the SPVL, the victim is not known to police circles. A possible link between the event and organized crime will be “looked into eventually”.

The images captured by the hotel’s security cameras should be analyzed in the coming days. SPVL police officers also met several witnesses on site.

Some witnesses reported seeing a man running away from the scene.

On Saturday evening, a large security perimeter was set up to try to understand the circumstances of this event. The Sûreté du Québec was also on the scene.

When the arrival of Soleil on the scene, Sunday morning, the security perimeter had been lifted. A few police officers were still present to meet witnesses.

There have been no arrests yet. The investigation continues.
