Diomaye salutes the role of religious guides in social cohesion and stability in Senegal

XALIMANEWS: The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, expressed on Saturday in Louga his desire to elevate the Directorate of Religious Affairs and the integration of graduates in Arabic to the rank of a Delegation of Religious Affairs and Worship to better institutionalize relations between the State and religion.

“Measures will be taken in this direction to strengthen the Directorate of Religious Affairs, with a view to raising it to the rank of Delegation of Religious Affairs and Worship but also to better support the daaras,” said President Faye.

He was making a courtesy visit to the Caliph General of the Omarian family of Louga, Thierno Bassirou Tall, as part of the 61st edition of the annual ziarra of this religious family.

Administrative authorities from the Louga region as well as religious dignitaries from the Omarian family were present during this visit.

He explained that “this institutionalization of relations between the State and religion is an essential step to preserve the Senegalese exception and guarantee social regulation”, before reaffirming “the State’s commitment to strengthening its links with the religious centers of the country.

He also reaffirmed on this occasion ”his commitment to continuing the Program for the modernization of religious cities, based on the comments and needs expressed by religious leaders”.

The Head of State praised “the role of the Caliph of the Omarian family in preserving the religious and social values ​​of Senegal and his determination to assume the heavy mission entrusted to him.”

President Faye also praised “the role of religious guides in the social cohesion and stability of Senegal”, noting that “Senegal, thanks to its religious leaders, has always been able to overcome difficult periods”.

He requested prayers from Caliph Thierno Bassirou Tall “for the success of his mission and that of the State”.
