Algiers criticizes a “disinformation campaign”

Lhe Algerian authorities denounce what they describe as a “disinformation campaign” targeting their country.

“Algeria is in no way part of a dynamic of escalation, provocation or humiliation,” declared the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an official statement.

The same press release accuses certain French political fringes, in particular “the vengeful and hateful extreme right as well as its relays within the French government”, of currently leading a “campaign of disinformation” and “mystification” against the Algeria.

These declarations follow the remarks of the French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, who, on Friday, affirmed that “Algeria seeks to humiliate ”.

He added that it was time to consider “all means available” to react to Algiers, while advocating the maintenance of “coolness”.

The case concerns “Doualemn”, a 59-year-old Algerian influencer, arrested in after the publication of a controversial video on TikTok.

Expelled Thursday afternoon to Algeria, he was returned to France in the evening, Algiers having decided to “deny him access to its territory”, according to the French authorities.

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified that this decision followed “excesses” and “violations of acquired rights” of this individual on French soil.

Algiers affirms that its decision is motivated by the concern to guarantee the person concerned the possibility of responding to the accusations brought against him and of asserting his rights within the framework of a fair and transparent judicial process in France.
