The city of Marrakech welcomed nearly 4 million visitors in 2024, setting a historic record, announced Friday the president of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Marrakech-Safi, Hamid Bentahar.
During a meeting of the CRT Executive Committee held in Marrakech, in the presence of Achraf Fayda, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), Mr. Bentahar stressed that the region also recorded more than 12 million of nights, reflecting the strong attractiveness of the destination. The average occupancy rate of accommodation establishments exceeded 72%, thus confirming the positive dynamics of the tourism sector.
These performances are the result of joint efforts between public and private actors aimed at promoting Marrakech as a benchmark tourist destination on an international scale, according to Mr. Bentahar. He added that these results mark an important step, but that they must serve as a lever to strengthen the competitiveness of the city while integrating the principles of sustainable development.
Mr. Bentahar declared: “These results should encourage us to continue our efforts to position Marrakech among the essential tourist destinations, like the major world capitals. »
For his part, Mr. Fayda emphasized the importance of an inclusive territorial approach, promoting the assets of the different provinces of the Marrakech-Safi region. He reiterated the ONMT’s commitment to supporting the city in the diversification of tourism markets, stressing that this approach is crucial to sustain the gains and support growth.
The presidents of the sector’s professional associations present at this meeting also welcomed the efforts made by the ONMT, while calling for a proactive strategy to develop new international markets. In particular, they insisted on the importance of strengthening air links with distant markets such as Latin America, Asia and Africa. Furthermore, they stressed the need to intensify promotional campaigns in order to attract visitors from these emerging regions.
