Tourism: Marrakech reaches new heights

The president of the Marrakech-Safi Regional Tourism Council (CRT), Hamid Bentahar, recently announced that Marrakech reached a “historic record” in 2024, recording nearly 4 million visitors. A figure which marks a significant step in the tourist development of the Ocher City.

During the meeting of the CRT Executive Committee held in Marrakech in the presence of Achraf Fayda, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), Mr. Bentahar indicated that the region had recorded more than 12 million overnight stays. A figure which testifies to the strong attractiveness of the destination. Concretely, the average occupancy rate exceeded 72%, confirming the positive dynamics of the sector, added the president of the CRT of Marrakech-Safi. And added that “these exceptional performances reflect the joint efforts of public and private actors to promote Marrakech as a destination of choice on a global scale.”

He also stressed that the Ocher City must capitalize on this strategic momentum to continue to increase its competitiveness while adopting a perspective of sustainable development. “These results represent collective pride, but above all they must encourage us to redouble our efforts to position Marrakech as an essential and sustainable destination, like the great world tourist capitals,” he declared.

For his part, Achraf Fayda insisted on the importance of an inclusive territorial approach, taking into account the potential of each province of the Marrakech-Safi Region. In this context, he reaffirmed the ONMT’s commitment to supporting the Ocher City in its dynamic market diversification, emphasizing that this strategy is crucial to consolidate achievements and maintain growth. It should be noted that the ONMT, with the support of the National Tourism Confederation, began a tour of the regions of the Kingdom in order to meet local officials, CRT managers and key players in the sector.

Also, the presidents of professional associations in the tourism sector, present at this meeting, unanimously welcomed the efforts of the ONMT, while emphasizing the importance of a proactive strategy for the development of new international markets. They particularly emphasized the need to strengthen air connections with long-haul markets such as Latin America, Asia and Africa, as well as the intensification of promotional campaigns to attract tourists from these regions. emerging.
