On the occasion of the Princess of Wales’ 43rd birthday, Prince William paid tribute to his wife’s resilience after a year marked by personal trials, including a battle with cancer.
Prince William publicly celebrated his wife Kate Middleton’s birthday, calling her a “remarkable” woman. This Thursday, January 9, the Princess of Wales celebrates her 43rd birthday, a special date after a trying year for the royal family.
“To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you have shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you. Happy birthday, Catherine, we love you. W”William wrote on the couple’s official social networks. This message, full of tenderness, was accompanied by a black and white photo of the princess smiling and dressed casually.
A year marked by illness
In January 2024, Kate underwent major abdominal surgery in a London hospital. Shortly after, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer, the nature of which remained confidential. Determined, the princess began chemotherapy, a struggle she shared publicly last September, when she announced the end of her treatment with “relief.”

The year 2024 has been particularly difficult for the royal family. In November, Prince William confided that this period, also marked by the cancer diagnosis of his father, King Charles III, was “the hardest of (his) life”.
A gradual resumption of commitments
For her birthday, Kate chose to celebrate in complete simplicity, surrounded by her family at their residence at the royal estate in Windsor. After this year of convalescence, the Princess of Wales plans to gradually resume her public engagements. In particular, she will continue to support causes that are close to her heart, such as education and early childhood.
