What scenarios for the qualification of Raja and AS FAR in the quarter-finals?

The two Moroccan clubs, among the most successful, are competing for qualification for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, as part of the 5th day, on the lawn of the Stade d’Honneur in Meknes, from 8 p.m.

The Militaires, first in group B with 8 points, have so far been solid, winning two victories: a first against RCA (2-0) and the second against Maniema Union (2-0), and conceding two draws against Mamelodi Sundowns (1-1) and Maniema Union (1-1).

For their part, Mohamed Zrida’s teammates, 3rd with 4 points, experienced mixed results, with two defeats against AS FAR (2-0) and against Sundowns (1-0), a draw against Maniema ( 1-1) and a success against the South Africans, which put them back in the race.

The Military one step away

If Amine Zouhzouh’s teammates win their match against Raja Casablanca, they will total 11 points and will be mathematically qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition, regardless of the result of their last match against Masandawana.

A victory would allow the capital club to retain first place in the group and strengthen its position for a favorable draw in the quarters, where Rabie H’rimat’s teammates would face one of the second places, from the other groups.

In addition, a draw would also be enough for the Military to validate their ticket to the quarter-finals, bringing their total to 9 points and placing them out of reach of Sundowns, Raja and even Maniema Union, while approaching the last match of the group stage with plenty of serenity.

Victory a victory

After their success against Mamelodi Sundowns (1-0) last Saturday, the Aigles Verts are back in the race for qualification in the quarter-finals. For the three-time champion (1989, 1997 and 1999), a victory against AS FAR is crucial to stay in the fight for a qualifying ticket.

With 7 points, the Casablanca club would overtake the South Africans in the event of a draw or defeat for the latter, and would remain in the running for qualification for the next round of the LoC.

However, any result other than three points would seriously complicate the chances of Raja Casablanca, depending on the performance of the other match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Maniema Union at the Stade des Martyrs.

The favorable scenario for a double Moroccan qualification

A draw between the two teams would allow AS far to maintain the lead in group B with 9 points, while giving RCA a chance to qualify on the sixth and final day of the groups. However, the Greens should then beat Maniema Union at Larbi Zaouli and hope for a favorable result in the other match between AS FAR-Mamelodi Sundowns to validate their ticket to the next round.

Furthermore, if the Casablancais win their match against the Militaires and the latter win their last meeting against the Sundowns, a victory for Raja on the last day could allow the two Moroccan representatives to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition. the most prestigious interclub on the African continent.

Without forgetting, in a group as tight as Group B, the goal difference will be decisive. The Military currently benefit from a better goal difference (+4), which gives them an advantage in the event of a tie on points. The RCA, for its part, must not only aim for victory, but also improve its goal difference (-2), to give itself every chance in the event of an equal scenario with another team.
