On sick leave for the last three months, the Vevey trustee wanted to clarify his situation. In a press release released on Monday, Yvan Luccarini announced that he was back in charge of the City and detailed his state of health.

Because the verdict is in: the Veveysan suffers from a rare genetic neurological disease of the Charcot-Marie-Tooth type for which, he writes, no treatment exists to date. He explains that his absence from the Executive was due to “stress linked to waiting for a medical diagnosis and multiple medical examinations aimed at eliminating other possible pathologies”.

The main symptoms of this neuropathy are muscle weakness, balance problems, and loss of sensitivity in the extremities of the feet and hands. This diagnosis will not affect his work, however, assures the trustee: “The progression of the disease is slow, it does not affect cognitive functions and does not reduce life expectancy.” Enough to continue carrying out normal professional activity.

No political crisis

What do you give? tensions caused by the 2025 budget or political disagreements within the Municipality?

It is true that the question of the budget had caused great tensions within the Finance Committee. Shortly after, the trustee was on sick leave. Speculation was rife: lack of leadership? Internal conflict?

Concerning several assertions relayed by certain press titles, notably reporting his “isolation” or his refusal to compromise, they were brushed aside by the elected representative of the radical left. “They are baseless and I refute them.” If tensions exist, “it is however their absence that we should be worried about”, he defends himself.

Yvan Luccarini takes the opportunity to reiterate his “full commitment” to his duties and says he is delighted to continue working for the common good of the Vevey population.
