Marrakech: the authorities carry out a crackdown against shisha cafes

On the night of Thursday to Friday, January 3, in Marrakech, the local authorities of Guéliz launched a vast control operation targeting cafes illegally serving shisha in this busy neighborhood. Carried out in collaboration with elements of the 1st and 22nd police districts, this intervention included raids on several establishments suspected of offering this illegal service.

During these raids, a large number of hookahs and various equipment intended for preparing hookahs were seized, as well as a large quantity of contraband hookah tobacco. The managers of the establishments concerned were arrested and submitted to hearing reports, the first step before the application of the legal measures in force.

By specifically targeting these practices contrary to current regulations, the operation intends to fight against activities deemed harmful to public health and safety. It is part of a broader approach by local and security authorities, aimed at repressing offenses observed in certain shisha cafes, recurring sources of inconvenience for residents of the neighborhood.
