Week from December 30 to January 5, 2025: the return of disruptions

From January 1, an active disturbance will cross from north to south, with rain and strong winds. Cold air will descend from the north and snow will fall at low altitudes on our terrain, particularly in the northeast. Mistral and tramontane will rise in the south-east. This disturbed episode will be short-lived, giving way to dry and fairly cold weather for the first week of January.

Week from January 6 to 12: dry and fairly cold weather

After the rain-snow disturbance at the beginning of the month, the anticyclone is rising again over France. Thanks to clear nights, it may freeze quite significantly, especially in the mountains where the fresh snow will persist. In the plains, you will have to count on sometimes freezing fog and the return of clearings.

Week of January 13 to 19: towards the return of disturbances in the north

Reliability is very limited at this time. The most likely scenario is that anticyclonic conditions will continue until around mid-January, with a gradual cooling. Then, ocean disturbances are expected to return in a softened west to southwest flow. These disturbances would first circulate north of the , while beautiful, mild, almost spring-like days could reign to the south.

Week from January 20 to 25: rain and mildness

For this period, the predominant scenario would be that of a disturbed westerly ocean flow, mild and humid, with wind and rainy periods.

In this context, seasonal forecasts still envisage a mild January in France on a monthly scale, notwithstanding the fairly cold first week. Precipitation would be excess over the north-eastern quarter, and deficient towards the south-west and around the Mediterranean. This means that it would rain less than statistical normals.
