The accident happened on Christmas Eve. One person died and three others were injured in an accident on the A10 motorway near Cubzac-les-Ponts (Gironde) during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the Libourne prosecutor's office told Le Parisien, confirming information from several local media.
Four vehicles and eight people were involved. According to initial information, a first vehicle traveling in the Paris-Bordeaux direction hit a car around 1:30 a.m., seriously injuring the 62-year-old passenger. Two other vehicles then collided with the first victims, causing a major pile-up.
Despite the rapid arrival of emergency services and the first aid provided, the sixty-year-old did not survive her injuries and died at the scene. A pregnant woman, aged 26, remains hospitalized and two men were also injured. They were taken care of in relative urgency, specifies the daily Sud Ouest.
The driver, aged 38, was placed in police custody “on charges of involuntary manslaughter aggravated by the circumstances of driving under the influence of alcohol and after use of narcotics, and aggravated involuntary injuries”, confirms the parquet. He will be referred during the day on Friday.
An investigation was opened by the Aquitaine motorway CRS to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
The same night, in Gard, two cars and a heavy goods vehicle collided on the A9 motorway. A 35-year-old woman was fatally struck and four people were injured, including three members of the same family.
