This winter 2024, Waldemar and Franck Kita, managers of FC Nantes, decided to reorganize their bench to revive a team in difficulty.
After a disappointing start to the season under Antoine Kombouaré, the Canaries occupied 14th place in Ligue 1, with a poor record of 3 wins, 5 draws and 7 defeats in 15 days. To revitalize the club, the Kita had set their sights on Habib Beye, a promising coach who had done remarkable work with Red Star.

From their first interview, Habib Beye convinced the Kitas thanks to his clear vision and his motivation. The discussions quickly resulted in an agreement in principle, and a contract was prepared. The initial plan was to sack Antoine Kombouaré on a Friday morning and officially present Habib Beye in the afternoon, with the aim of him taking the reins of the team the next day in the Coupe de France against Drancy.
However, the 47-year-old coach had requested that a temporary worker manage this match, believing he could not work effectively with the players in such a short time. The leaders had accepted this request, but disagreements concerning the composition of its staff quickly slowed down the negotiations.

Habib Beye wanted to surround himself with collaborators in whom he had complete confidence. However, the Kita insisted that he include an experienced figure in his team. Despite his flexibility, Beye defended the idea of working with his own staff, made up of competent people already ready to follow him.
The physical trainer Grégory Dupont, initially approached, initially showed interest before withdrawing for personal reasons. This withdrawal plunged the Kita into uncertainty. Faced with these complications, other targeted profiles preferred to stay in their current clubs, leaving the Nantes project in an impasse.

These tensions cooled Habib Beye, who already perceived short-term management and a lack of consideration on the part of leaders. Aware that he could not fully commit without complete trust, he ultimately gave up on this project.
