At the end of his swimming career, Léon Marchand would dream of following a different trajectory, a little closer to the stars.
Crowned with success, the year 2024 brought Léon Marchand to the heights of glory. A quadruple gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he also won a bronze medal in the relay in front of the capital's public. A true sporting icon, he was recently named French favorite sports personality alongside judokate Clarisse Agbegnenou among the ladies. Nevertheless, the aura of the Toulouse native has massively crossed the borders of France, World Aquatics also named him swimmer of the year. Following this induction, Léon Marchand gave an exclusive interview to the international swimming federation.
During this interview, the Haut-Garonne swimmer made some revelations about his private life. Like his taste in music. “I do some mixing. I really like 'House' music, I'm really interested in that too.” However, another field greatly appeals to Léon Marchand, so much so that he dreams of retraining there at the end of his career. “Since I was little, I really liked astrophysics, astronomy and space. In recent years, I realized that maybe I could work in this subject. So, I would like to do that later. I would like to wake up in the morning, go to a company where I work on this and I would be the happiest in the world.”
Heading for Australia for Léon Marchand
Not surprising for a Toulouse resident, the Pink City being the cradle of the French aerospace industry. Before touching on the stars on a daily basis, Léon Marchand gave the public an eyeful, notably at the Short Course World Championships in Singapore in November where he set a new world record in the 200m medley. Next year, in agreement with his trainer Bob Bowman, he will train for several months in Australia where he plans to discover another training culture before returning to Austin, Texas, where he made his home.
