The approximately 200 employees of the Stoneham Ski Resort will be on strike during the holidays, after the failure of negotiations which almost resulted in an agreement Monday evening.
Even if it remains open to negotiation, the Ski Resort Employees' Union intends to trigger a first sequence of three days of strike starting Friday.
The union affiliated with the CSN, which has a 10-day strike mandate since Wednesday, is asking the employer Resorts of the Canadian Rockies inc. (RCR) an equivalent recognition granted to their colleagues at Mont Saint-Anne.
According to the union, which recognized that the two parties were a hair's breadth away from resolving the labor dispute, the employer was closed to its counter-offer on the salary scale, which is far from equaling that of the employees of Mount Saint-Anne.
“It’s not for lack of trying to reach an agreement, but it is clear that the employer does not seem to take us seriously,” lamented Jacques Ratté, president of the Employees’ Union. from the Stoneham Ski Resort (CSN).
“At the Fédération du commerce, we are used to having to insist on certain employers that they recognize all of their employees at their true value,” said Alexandre Laviolette, president of the Fédération du commerce-CSN.
“It’s really a shame to see that the employer is not showing more openness to the union’s demands on the eve of the holidays,” added Louis Hamel, treasurer of the Central Council of Québec-Chaudière-Appalaches – CSN.
