The Bayrou government revealed: Borne, Valls and Darmanin return to service

François Bayrou's government sees the return of two former Prime Ministers, Elisabeth Borne to Education and Manuel Valls to Overseas Territories, Gérald Darmanin to Justice and the retention of Bruno Retailleau to the Interior and Sébastien Lecornu to the Armed Forces , according to the composition revealed Monday evening by the Elysée.

The government team maintains a clear coloring to the right and the center, even if Elisabeth Borne, Manuel Valls and the socialist François Rebsamen, former Minister of Labor of François Hollande appointed to Territorial Planning and Decentralization, will embody the left wing.

Elisabeth Borne, first head of government of Emmanuel Macron's second five-year term (2022-2024), and Manuel Valls, Prime Minister (2014-2016) of François Hollande, were appointed ministers of state, in the second and third protocol ranks behind François Bayrou.

Former Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, heavyweight in the Borne and Attal governments, has found another regal post in Justice. Macronist Aurore Bergé is also returning as Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination.

The centrist (MoDem) Jean-Noël Barrot is reappointed to Foreign Affairs. Catherine Vautrin remains in government, but moves from the Ministry of Territories to the portfolio of Health, Solidarity and Families, which she had already held previously. Former LR Rachida Dati remains Minister of Culture.

The director of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, Eric Lombard, joins the government of François Bayrou at the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty.

He will be supported by the Macronist Amélie de Montchalin in charge of Public Accounts, at a time when is facing one of the worst budgetary crises in its recent history. Among the other economic portfolios, Laurent Marcangeli (Horizons) will be in charge of the Civil Service. Annie Genevard (LR) for her part retains Agriculture.

The current vice-president of the MoDem Patrick Mignola becomes Minister of Relations with Parliament and Sophie Primas (LR), outgoing Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, spokesperson for the Government.

President Emmanuel Macron will bring together the government of François Bayrou on January 3 at the Elysée for a first Council of Ministers.
