After the heavy snowfall on Sunday, the mayor of Saint-Gervais (Haute-Savoie), Jean-Marc Peillex, called for caution on Monday, December 23, on franceinfo: “No one is invincible and everyone is mortal so let's avoid human disasters, please. Let's have a peaceful Christmas vacation and welcome to all our tourist friends.”

On the Météo website, Haute-Savoie, like Savoie and Isère, have been on orange avalanche alert since Monday morning after heavy snowfall on Sunday.

“The marked trails open one after the other. It takes time to groom”explains the mayor of Saint-Gervais. “We have a snowpack that has just fallen and is very unstable everywhere, so we have to take it step by step.”

Jean-Marc Peillex emphasizes the danger of going off-piste: “It's much too unstable, the layers are not welded together and so you actually have to stay in the ski area. It's magnificent, it's true, on the other side of the rope, but it's so dangerous .And then we just cry.”
