police dismantle Ecstasy trafficking network

A vast drug trafficking network in Ziguinchor has just been dismantled by the men of Commissioner Malick Dieng. As reported Liberationthree alleged traffickers, operating in the town and its surroundings, were arrested after a careful investigation by the police. This operation reveals the scale of the illegal trade in Ecstasy tablets, also nicknamed “Volet”, which is plaguing the region.

An investigation that lasted months

According to information from Liberationthe investigation by the research section of the Ziguinchor urban police station had started several months ago. It was in the Goumel district, on the outskirts of the town, that the sleuths obtained crucial information on this network of traffickers. Their suspicions fell on Omar Ba, a “Jakarta” motorcycle taxi driver living in Peyrissac, identified as delivering the drugs.

The police ruse that trapped the delivery man

To confirm the information, the police set up a shadowing and surveillance operation. As recounted Liberationa “scout” was sent to place an order with Omar Ba. The latter, unaware that it was a ploy, agreed to deliver two Ecstasy tablets. But at the time of the transaction, Omar Ba was surprised by the intervention of the police who arrested him on the spot.

Confessions that reveal an entire network

Once in police custody, Omar Ba was quick to denounce his accomplices. Under pressure, he gave the names of Ibrahima Dabo, alias “Solo”, a debt collector at Crédit Mutuel du Sénégal (CMS) and resident of Boucotte , as well as El Hadj Barka Touré, a student living in Ziguinchor. The latter were in turn arrested.

A growing threat in Ziguinchor

The arrest of these three individuals highlights the emergence of organized Ecstasy trafficking in a city where the authorities are increasing their efforts to fight against narcotics. This type of drug, very popular with a young clientele, represents a growing danger for public health and local security.

The next legal steps

After their hearing, the three alleged traffickers were brought before the prosecutor. According to Liberationinvestigators are continuing their investigations to trace the distribution chain and identify possible accomplices still at large.

A victory for the police, but the fight continues

The successful intervention of the police in Ziguinchor illustrates the determination of the authorities to curb drug trafficking in the region. However, as pointed out Liberationthis affair is probably only the tip of an iceberg. Vigilance remains essential to prevent this type of illegal trade from taking further root in the region.

With this operation, the police are sending a clear message to traffickers: Ziguinchor will not be a fertile ground for organized crime.
