Autumn 2024 among the hottest ever recorded in Morocco (DGM)

While the months of September and October had temperatures close to climatic normalswith moderate anomalies around +0.2 °C, November 2024 stood out by establishing a historic record, specifies the general directorate of meteorology. With a exceptional anomaly of +3.09°C, this month becomes the hottest ever measured for this period, highlighting the intensification of the warming global.

Saw-toothed precipitation

On the precipitation side, fall 2024 was marked by strong disparities. THE month of September experienced above-normal rainfall, particularly in the south-east of Morocco, a region which usually receives little rainfall, notes the same source. However, this trend was not enough to balance the seasonal balance: autumn ended with an overall rainfall deficit of 16%.

November, in particular, was extremely dry nationally, recording a precipitation deficit of -82% compared to climatological normals. This persistent drought accentuates the difficulties for ecosystems and the water resources in a context already weakened by climate change.

Signs of a continuing climate crisis

Ces climatic anomalies once again highlight the growing effects of global warmingunderlines the DGM. Heat records, recurring drought et irregular precipitation illustrate the challenges facing the Morocco and the whole world are faced with climate change.

Fall 2024 is not just an exception: it is the reflection of a tendency alarming which calls for concrete actions to mitigate the impacts of these upheavals on populations and ecosystems.
