It's going to blow a few days before the Christmas holidays. Météo places, for this Sunday, December 22, 2024, 85 departments on yellow alert for the wind as well as six departments in orange for the same reasons.

These are Côtes-d’Armor, Ille-et-Vilaine and Manche pour vent. But also Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie for Snow-Ice and avalanches.

Gusts above 140 km/h

Nearactu.frWeather and co meteorologist Yann Amice explains that “a northwesterly flow sets up during the night from Saturday to Sunday”.

In and , there will be gusts of up to 120 km/h, even 130 km/h on the Channel coasts and around 100 km/h inland. A good gust of wind.

These squalls may be associated “with frequent showers, sometimes stormy and accompanied by sleet”, notes Météo France. “The episode is also notable for its duration. »

Be careful in the Mediterranean

But, a few days after Dioniso, this phenomenon is not limited to the North-West territories alone. “What we need to watch out for is this wind coming into the Mediterranean on Sunday afternoon,” warns Yann Amice.

It will be a strong episode of mistral with a little tramontane.

The meteorologist specifies that gusts could reach 140 km/h, or even go beyond in Corsica. “There will still be good gusts of wind,” insists Yann Amice. And the whole country is concerned.

Calm Christmas?

This wind episode is “common” for the season. As for the mistral more precisely, it is linked to the arrival of the anticyclone from Tuesday.

Which means relatively calm weather on December 24-25.
