The month of January 2025 promises to be super full of new products, especially when you’re a video game player. There is reason to rejoice and be excited about the planned announcements.
I can’t wait to be in 2025. Not to discover, if it is not postponed, GTA 6, but for the new features which should follow from the start of the year.
Indeed, the year promises to be particularly rich for video game players, and this will be seen from January 2025. AMD and Nvidia are preparing exciting new products, and the manufacturers have never been in such competition for find the right ideas to convince you.
Lenovo x AMD x Valve: the new king of the laptop?
The new thing that I’m most looking forward to in the coming weeks is the Lenovo Legion Go S. And for good reason, the new portable PC console has already been the subject of several significant leaks.
We know that its design should approach the excellent ROG Ally from Asus, leaving aside as many gimmicks as possible, to offer a performance/price ratio which promises to be very interesting.
Rumors speak of a price below 800 euros for a console which would on paper offer a new generation of performance thanks to the new AMD Ryzen Z2 chip.
The icing on the cake, the Lenovo Legion Go S would be offered with two systems to choose from, the classic Windows 11 ideal for combining with PC Game Pass, or the more optimized SteamOS. Indeed, Lenovo’s console would be one of the first to become a variation of the Steam Deck and its OS highly optimized for this type of machine.
A mastered design, an optimized bone, new generation performance and a low price. If rumors are to be believed, Lenovo’s console has everything to become the market benchmark.
Graphics cards (which we won’t be able to afford)
Excited, I am also excited by what Nvidia will be able to offer with its new generation of Blackwell architecture graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 5000.
Obviously, I don’t really plan to afford one of the first models. Nvidia will probably start the generation with the GeForce RTX 5090 which we can easily imagine passing the outrageous 2000 euro mark.
Nevertheless, Nvidia has become the number 1 company in the world on the stock market, and has been producing excellent generations of graphics cards since at least the GTX 900. We are inevitably curious to see what new things the brand can offer.
I am therefore impatiently awaiting the innovations that Nvidia will announce, particularly in terms of DLSS. The brand may also have other uses of AI up its sleeve, like the excellent RTX Broadcast.
What’s new from AMD
AMD will also be present at CES 2025 to present new products. The launch of AMD Strix Halo APUs was notably leaked.
This is a new generation of PC chips combining a processor and a high-performance graphics chip, with the addition of very fast unified memory.
The chip would bring together up to 16 full AMD Zen 5 cores for the CPU and up to 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units for the GPU. This will allow the design of simpler ultraportables capable of running demanding video games. For an entire family of products, there is no need to add a dedicated GeForce RTX next to the central processor. A strategy that could pay off for AMD.
And Nintendo?
The icing on the cake is that 2025 will also be the year of launch of a new generation of consoles at Nintendo. According to the president of the brand, communication will begin before the end of the company’s fiscal year, therefore before March 2025. We should quickly have news of this “Switch 2”.
Some rumors even suggest a first announcement as early as January. Difficult to say, but in any case we will know very soon what Nintendo is preparing for its new console. It also means a whole new generation of games. The fans are waiting Pokémon Legends Z-A, Metroid Prime 4 a new Mario Kart (the first in ten years), and a new Super Mario in 3D.
