Weather, a disturbance will bring bad weather back to Italy

One arrives new wave of bad weather in Italy due to the passage of an Atlantic disturbance which will make its effects felt in weekend before Christmas week. Here is the weather forecast for the next few days.

Weather, a few days before Christmas rain and snow return to Italy: temperatures also drop

The disturbance n.5 of December arrived in Italy bringing rain and thunderstorms to the Northern regions, but also one cold air mass and the snow in the mountains. The peak is expected on Friday 20 December with very strong gusts of wind that will even exceed 100 km/h.

After a climatically calm week a few days before Christmas comes a strong change with the restoration of winter weather conditions. Rain and thunderstorms throughout the country with the return of snow even at low altitudes and a significant drop in temperatures. The effects of the disturbance first affected the northern regions, but in the next few hours they will also reach the central-southern regions with a strong intensification of the winds and a very cold air mass which determines a sharp drop in temperatures and the return of snow on the Alps and Apennines.

But let’s go into detail with Thursday 19 December 2024: scattered clouds along the entire boot with the risk of rain between the Ligurian East and upper Tuscany and gradually increasing also in the rest of the North with the exception of western Piedmont, Western Liguria and Emilia Romagna. Snow returns to the Alps at initially high altitudes, but in the next few hours snow will also fall around 800-1000 metres. Widespread bad weather also in Campania, Tyrrhenian Calabria and western Sardinia. Maximum temperatures are also decreasing.

On the day of Friday 20 December clearings in the North-West areas, while scattered clouds in the rest of the country with the risk of widespread rain. Snowfall is also expected around 600 metres in the Eastern Alps. Minimum temperatures falling, but still above freezing, while winds strengthen with gusts above 100 km/h.

The weather trend ahead of the weekend: what will the weather be like?

What will the weather be like on the last weekend before Christmas? Saturday 21 December Disturbance No. 5 of the month, responsible for the abrupt climate change, will leave our country headed towards Greece even if its effects will continue to be felt in various regions. Rain forecast in Abruzzo, Molise, Irpinia, Puglia, Lucania, southern Calabria and northern Sicily. The winds will weaken in the North and in Tuscany, while they will become very strong in the rest of the country, causing a sharp drop in temperatures with values ​​below the average for the period.

Sunday 22 December cleared up in much of the country, but the minimum temperatures will be increasingly lower with the risk of frosts in the early hours of the morning in Northern and Central Italy. The day promises to be cloudy and then gives way to the arrival of one new disturbance accompanied by one even colder air mass just ahead of Christmas.

The snow returns with possible snowfall even at the valley floor. The new disturbance will mainly affect the Central-Southern regions with abundant thunderstorms accompanied by a windy phase with strong gusts of storm.
