Boxing: Usyk-Fury, a judge will be artificial intelligence – Other Sports

A surprising announcement to say the least, which could revolutionize the world of boxing in the future, comes from Riyadh, where on Saturday, in the ring of the Kingdom Arena, the rematch of the WBC-WBA-WBO heavyweight world championship between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury is scheduled (live, in ‘pay for view’, on Dazn starting from 7pm).

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, president of the General Authority for Entertainment of Saudi Arabia, made it known via social media that, for the first time in the history of the ‘noble art’ and not only of this discipline, a judge programmed on intelligence artificial will monitor the match between Usyk and Fury.

The project is sponsored by the historic magazine ‘The Ring’, founded in 1922 and whose majority stake was acquired last November by a consortium headed by Alalshikh.

On Saturday evening the ‘artificial’ judge will judge, as has been explained, “without prejudice and impartiality” trying to avoid the human errors that have characterized many verdicts in the history of boxing. However, it should be noted that this will be an experiment, albeit a revolutionary one, and will therefore have no impact on the official result of the world heavyweight championship, serving only as a “term of comparison”.

In fact, the AI’s response will not be taken into consideration for the purposes of the verdict, which will be issued exclusively by the three judges in flesh and blood. Alalshikh also said he was available to provide more details on this ‘artificial intelligence judge’ experiment, but did not specify whether he would do so before or after the world match on Saturday.
