In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rabat announces that following the mediation of King Mohammed VI, Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso, responded favorably to his request for the release of four French nationals, held in Ouagadougou since the month from December 2023.
This humanitarian act was made possible thanks to the excellent relations between King Mohammed VI and President Traoré and the good relations that have long united Morocco and Burkina Faso, it is reported.
As a reminder, last December, the four French people were arrested two days after their arrival in Ouagadougou. Member of the General Directorate of External Security, they were there as part of cooperation with the Burkinabé National Intelligence Agency. Suspected of espionage, they were arrested. For Burkina Faso, the four French agents had not respected the entry procedure, by presenting themselves with classic e-visas and not diplomatic visas. The power of the junta demanded their release in exchange for France’s extradition of a number of its opponents, which Paris had formally refused during secret negotiations.
