Doro Gaye arrested by Interpol thanks to his wife’s luxury purchases, his extradition procedure launched

Doro Gaye was arrested on Monday, in , in front of Fouquet’s on the Champs-Élysées, around 7 p.m. French police were able to locate the businessman by tracing a bank card used by his first wife, Clara Gaye. The latter made several purchases in luxury boutiques using her husband’s card, which allowed the authorities to track her movements. This meticulous surveillance system thus led to the arrest of the “fugitive”, wanted after his flight from Senegal.

Presented before the public prosecutor’s office, Doro Gaye was placed under judicial supervision and prohibited from leaving French territory. During his hearing, he was defended by Me Seydou Diagne, who represented him before the judge, Libération informs us.

Temporarily released as part of the investigation in Senegal, Doro Gaye took advantage of this freedom to organize his escape. He would have first passed through Guinea before finding refuge in France, hoping to escape any incarceration and avoid further prosecution. However, thanks to strengthened cooperation between the Senegalese, French and Interpol authorities, his run has come to an end.

Extradition in progress

However, this freedom under judicial control is only provisional. According to sources close to the case, the extradition procedure is continuing, and Doro Gaye remains in limbo. “As long as the extradition is not concluded, he is not out of the woods,” underlines a source who spoke to the newspaper L’Observateur. The procedure could last several weeks, even months, plunging Doro Gaye into a precarious situation.

Recall that the accusations against Doro Gaye relate to suspicious financial transactions linked to the sale of land. Senegalese investigators say these transactions involved large sums, paid into bank accounts and redistributed to various actors. Zakiloulahi Sow, one of the alleged victims, is demanding compensation for damage estimated at 1.2 billion FCFA.

The investigation, led by the judge of the 3rd cabinet in Dakar, attempts to unravel a complex network of intermediaries and beneficiaries. The Senegalese judicial authorities hope that the arrest of Doro Gaye will speed up the procedure and shed light on responsibilities in this case.
