Gambian President Adama Barrow today reaffirmed the importance of the role of the armed forces in maintaining democratic stability, during a briefing on Exercise Kansala 2024.
Speaking as Commander-in-Chief, during Exercise Kansala 2024, a five-day strategic program aimed at consolidating the operational effectiveness of the armed forces, the President stressed that the joint military exercise aims to strengthen the operational effectiveness of the troops. The exercise, which will take place from December 19 to 23, will focus on military and community outreach activities.
The Gambian Head of State sent a strong message to the military, declaring: “ The private sector is essential in development, but it will always seek a peaceful environment. » He insisted on the crucial role of the army in a stable democracy, without interfering in democratic processes.
The Chief of Defense Staff, Lt General Momar Cham, stressed the continued need to train and equip soldiers. Brigadier General Sait Njie recalled that “ the best form of well-being for troops is training ».
The Gambia is strengthening its military presence through Exercise Kansala 2024, which is part of the security sector reforms initiated in 2017. It will include various activities, including military exercises and health screening operations.
