La Liga warns of a major risk for football

The Super League has not disappeared, contrary to what some hoped.

The project, still supported by a handful of renowned European clubs, returns in a redesigned and named form Unify League. Presented by the agency A22 Sportsthis new model aims to redefine the future of European competitions. However, this project is already dividing football players, particularly in Spain, where the first criticisms have emerged.

Unify League: A new model of European competition

The Super League project has always divided the world of football. Despite its initial failure, some powerful clubs continue to imagine this competition. The Unify League model is based on a vision that does not seem to convince everyone.

The creators of this new competition want a format which would promote access to broadcasting rights for large clubs. This will generate colossal profits. This approach would aim to strengthen football’s elite, while excluding smaller clubs.

The first reaction to this project was that of La Liga, the Spanish championship, which clearly expressed its opposition. Through its account on the social network X (formerly Twitter), La Liga denounced theUnify League as a project of limited and harmful interest for football.

The press release: “Once again, A22 Sports presented another failed European Super League model, now called UNIFY League. A project that threatens the governance of European football by seeking to follow a handful of big clubs for their own benefit, by promoting a model of commercialization of broadcasting rights that would only benefit a few elite clubs and destroy the economy of national leagues . The project continues to lack support from clubs, federations, players, fans, national governments and European institutions.
