Successful debut for Maupay, the Vélodrome in celebration, the people of Nice cursed… The tops and the flops

TOPS/FLOPS – Olympique de Marseille won this Saturday at home in the southern derby against OGC Nice (2-0) for the fourth day of Ligue 1.

TOPS

Neal Maupay treats his first

For his first match in the OM jersey, and moreover for the derby against Nice, the Franco-Argentinian striker played a (very) bad trick on his training club and enchanted the Marseille crowd. The former Brighton player, already managed at the time by the current OM coach Roberto de Zerbi, opened the scoring with a header full of success (40′) a few minutes before the break. The native of Versailles had already had a superb goal denied a few moments earlier and showed a lot of quality this Saturday. A real duel with Elye Wahi will take place all season for the center forward position in the Phocaean city.

Luis Henrique’s Jewel

The Brazilian striker confirmed his excellent start to the season again this Saturday. The Marseillais combines and finds himself perfectly with his two attacking partners Mason Greenwood and Amine Harit. The latter author of a magnificent one-two with the Auriverde who then concluded this sublime action with a curling right foot shot directly into Marcin Bulka’s top corner (53′). A renaissance that continues for Luis Henrique, one of the providential men of the start of the Olympian season.

Tanguy Ndombele struggled

The Nice midfielder showed that he had not lost much of his technical qualities and physical power. The former Tottenham and French national team player, with all his experience, held the Côte d’Azur midfielder with an iron fist for a good part of the match. His contribution and his offensive projections did his team a lot of good. As soon as the ex-Neapolitan slowed down, the Aiglons sank on the Canebière this Saturday.

The Velodrome in turmoil

What an incandescent atmosphere this Saturday in Marseille! The Olympians players perfectly paid tribute to the 125th anniversary of the club’s history. It’s hard not to be transcended in such an atmosphere. The Marseille supporters, as usual, did things in a (very) big way.

FLOPS

The terrible clumsiness of Nice

The Azuréens let countless chances slip by in this match. Franck Haise’s men hit the Marseille posts four times and were far too clumsy to hope for anything this Saturday. Nice centre forward Evann Guessand is symptomatic of this inefficiency. The latter wasted his time in all directions. A lack of offensive realism that cost them (very) dearly this weekend and that they will have to erase in the coming weeks.

Geronimo Rulli not (at all) serene

We have seen a better Geronimo Rulli since the start of the season. The Marseille goalkeeper made four saves in this match but his saves were more than… lucky. The Argentinian goalkeeper had shaking hands and was blessed by the gods this Saturday. Symptomatic of Marseille’s success but at OGC Nice who seemed cursed.
