Asterix & Obélix (Netflix): Alain Chabat’s series reveals a strong potion teaser

Many spectators seem to agree that theAsterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra by Alain Chabat is the best live action adaptation of the comics by Uderzo and Goscinny, and the animated films by Alexandre Astier (Asterix: The Domain of the Gods et Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion) are of excellent quality. So why not mix it all up?

In any case, this is what the streaming platform Netflix will try to do in 2025 with the series Asterix & Obelix: The Battle of the Bosseswho has just revealed a brilliant first teaser.

A small but strong mini-series

Directed by Alain Chabat and Fabrice Joubert and co-written by the former Nul with Benoît Oullion and Pierre-Alain Bloch, this animated mini-series in five 30-minute episodes is unsurprisingly inspired by the seventh eponymous album of the adventures of the famous Gaul.

If you've never read it, here is the synopsis offered by Netflix: The last independent village of Gaul, the home of Asterix and Obelix, owes its superiority against the Romans to a magic potion, but when the Druid who made their potion loses his memory, the villagers are left to their own devices in the face of the power of Rome.

To animate all this, the Toulouse studio TAT was chosen. The name of Kristof Serrand of DreamWorks (Dragons, Kung Fu Panda 3…) was added to the magic potion in order to offer a result very close to the comics. If the level of detail (especially the decorations) seems modest, we will note the presence of onomatopoeia to give personality to the whole.

A cast heavy as a menhir

On the casting side, in addition to Chabat himself as Asterix, Gilles Lellouche will again be Obélix, while we will note the presence of Laurent Lafitte (César), du Palmashow (Abraracourcix and Bibus), Jérôme Commandeur (César's mother, yes ), Thierry Lhermitte (Panoramix), Alexandre Astier (Ordralfabetix), Fred Testot (Fastanfurious), Jean-Pascal Zadi (Potus), Géraldine Nakache (Bonemine) and Anaïs Demoustier (Metadata).

Some of these new names therefore suggest that Alain Chabat will take some liberties with the original comic strip.
