Richard Schamber, 55, appeared before the Melun Assize Court for the murder of his partner Irène Rodrigues.
The events took place on the night of December 4 to 5, 2021 in Meaux, in Seine-et-Marne. After 25 years of relationship, the accused strangled and suffocated his wife, aged 59, with a pillow, then, after dressing her, he threw her body into the Marne.
He allegedly committed this crime for Chantal, a virtual lover with whom he had been chatting since September 2021 via Telegram and who sent him naked photos. An hour later, he withdrew 450 euros with Irène’s bank card and sent the sum by money order to Chantal, even though the accused admitted having doubts about its real existence.
Then he sent text messages to his son Adrien and one of the victim’s sisters pretending to be Irene, in order to make people believe that she was still alive. Richard Schamber was sentenced Friday to 25 years of criminal imprisonment by the Assize Court of Seine-et-Marne.
