Brussels: David Leisterh’s gesture, a skillful maneuver

Absence of framework, torpedoing of Smart Move, management of ministers Gatz and Vervoort: the reasons for the budgetary wreck of the Brussels government

But we can also see things differently and consider that the maneuver is clever because it puts pressure on parties other than those who are currently mired in the Brussels negotiations. On Écolo and Défi, first of all, who will be accused of having done nothing to end the crisis which threatens the Region. And on the PS which will have pulled the plug before even starting to discuss with the Flemish majority because it does not want the N-VA.

As far as we are concerned, we lean more towards this second analysis. Because the circumstances are exceptional in Brussels, a Region quite simply threatened by bankruptcy if major budgetary decisions are not taken urgently.

And what is the noblest attitude in the heart of such a crisis? To stick to the opposition because we decided to do so after a defeat, hoping for success in the next elections? Or, despite everything, take responsibility and recognize that the priority must go to saving the Brussels Region?

This is the dilemma which must be plaguing the party leaders approached by David Leisterh today.

But one thing is certain: if no way out is found, history will remember the names of the parties, PS in the lead, which are at the origin of the federal supervision of Brussels…
