Geneva municipalities: Lancy adopts a balanced budget

It’s done: the City of Lancy has voted for the last budget of the current legislature. At almost perfect balance, the latter forecasts revenues of 181 million francs against 180 million in expenses. It was accepted Thursday evening by the Municipal Council, by 27 votes to 7. A positive sign, according to the Executive.

“This vote reinforces the Administrative Council in its management of public funds,” rejoices Salima Moyard, mayor of Lancy, via press release. He confirms that the Municipal Council supports the public policies implemented over the past five years. This budget will make it possible to continue ongoing projects in all areas.”

50% increase in five years

The PLR ​​opposed this 2025 budget. “We believe that we must stop increasing Lancy’s budget every year,” declares Thierry Derobert, liberal-radical municipal councilor. Over the legislature, the population increased by 6% but the budget by 46%! Yes, the town is developing and we have new neighborhoods, but it is not necessary to do everything at once.”

Thierry Derobert also regrets that the Deliberative did not follow the PLR ​​on its request to lower the additional cent. “Lancy is one of the most expensive municipalities and we have been suggesting this reduction for several years without being heard. This reduction would benefit the taxpayer’s wallet,” he underlines.

Positions for apprentices and trainees

If the main source of income for the City of Lancy remains taxes, which represent a sum of 135.5 million, the municipality nevertheless anticipates a drop of 7.58 million francs due to the cantonal vote on the modification of the law on the taxation of individuals (LIPP) accepted on November 24.

In expenses, Lancy anticipates an increase in staff costs due to the municipalization of Marignac swimming pool staff as well as due to the development of early childhood services. These charges will amount to 73.75 million francs compared to 69.54 million in 2024.

“We are also going to open eight apprentice or intern positions,” rejoices Corinne Gachet, administrative advisor in charge of finances. I am extremely happy because this vote is a very strong sign which validates what we want to aim for.”
