A former Geneva Airport employee, who denounced an internal WhatsApp group that she considered sexist and racist, won her case. The company’s appeals committee ordered Geneva Airport to pay it nearly 100,000 francs in compensation.
This woman, who had worked at Geneva Airport since 2007, was fired in 2022, following her denunciation. An internal investigation had been opened. Geneva Airport also contacted the Public Prosecutor’s Office. This procedure resulted in a non-entry into the matter.
The ex-employee turned to the internal appeals committee at Geneva Airport, which includes representatives of staff and the employer. According to a press release from the SSP union released on Sunday, this commission noted the existence of sexism, canceled the dismissal and ordered the employer to pay him compensation of nearly 100,000 francs.
This decision may be appealed to the Administrative Chamber of the Court of Justice. In the meantime, the SSP ‘demands the reinstatement of this worker’ while saluting her courage and determination.
Contacted by the Tribune de Genève and the RTS which revealed the affair, the management of Geneva Airport recalls having commissioned an internal investigation at the time which ruled out any situation of harassment. Management also emphasizes that it does not tolerate ‘any behavior likely to constitute an attack on personality or any other form of discrimination’ and ensures that each case reported is dealt with.
