Tribute to Marc and Aurélien, security agents killed at Loon-Plage

The tragedy that occurred this Saturday near plunged the northern region into mourning and fear. Among the five victims of this killing, two dog security agents, Marc Lehmus, 37, and Aurélien Cugny, 33, lost their lives while carrying out their surveillance mission in a port area in Loon-Plage.

Dedicated professionals

Marc and Aurélien were both employed by the company ECS, a subcontracting company for the port of Dunkirk. On Saturday, while patrolling an industrial zone, they were targeted by an armed gunman. Unfortunately, these agents were unarmed, only having their dogs for protection. Despite their professionalism and commitment, they found themselves defenseless in the face of this tragedy.

Marc, father of two daughters, was very popular in the local community. An active member of a motorcycle club in Loon-Plage, he participates every year in the organization of the town's major motorcycle race. His generosity and his smile were unanimously praised by those who knew him. Aurélien, for his part, shared with Marc the same passion for safety. These two men embodied commitment and dedication in a profession that is too often overlooked.

A collective tribute

Employees of the ECS company gathered on Sunday to honor the memory of their fallen colleagues. Their deaths are a tragic reminder of the risks faced by security agents in the exercise of their profession. Marc and Aurélien, by securing events and sites, contributed to the safety of Dunkirk residents during numerous regional balls and carnivals.

A drama with still unclear causes

According to Delta FM and The Parisian the shooter, a young man of 22, would have worked for the same company as Marc and Aurélien. The motivations for this act remain to be clarified, but a professional dispute could be at the origin of this series of murders. The public prosecutor of Dunkirk confirmed that the investigation is continuing under the qualifications of multiple murders and offenses linked to the possession of weapons.

He was a truck driver. This young man was registered with a shooting club. Which probably explains why four weapons were found in his vehicle, parked in front of the gendarmerie gate and immediately sealed by the gendarmes. The suspect is also believed to be the legal possessor of a Smith and Wesson 44 Remington rifle.

A call for recognition

This tragedy once again underlines the importance of better protecting and promoting the work of security agents, often on the front line to prevent and manage crisis situations. Marc and Aurélien must not be forgotten. Their sacrifice, in the exercise of an essential mission, reminds us of the value of their daily commitment.

In these dark hours, we send our heartfelt thoughts to the families, friends and colleagues of Marc and Aurélien. May their memory be a tribute to all the security agents who work every day to ensure our protection.
