The second edition of the multidisciplinary humanitarian medical caravan in Senegal was launched on Thursday in Diass (40 km from Dakar), at the initiative of the Senegalese NGO SAWAC (Smiling African Women and children) and the Moroccan Association of Care Visuals.
Initiated in partnership with other associations, this Caravan under the theme “Civil society initiatives as a lever to consolidate south-south cooperation”, aims to provide medical care to disadvantaged populations, to strengthen Moroccan-Senegalese relations. and to consolidate links with the Moroccan diaspora in Senegal.
The humanitarian initiative also aims to help facilitate access to health for vulnerable populations and provide them with medical services, according to the organizers.
This medical caravan, which mobilized a large staff of Moroccan and Senegalese general practitioners and specialists, also aims to bring medical services and health care closer to the rural Senegalese population.
The medical consultations of this action relate, among other things, to general medicine, cervical and breast cancer screening, gynecology, ophthalmology, radiology and radiography, in addition to the distribution of medicines for free and pairs of corrective glasses to the beneficiaries.
In a statement to MAP, the President of the NGO SAWAC, Fatima Zahra Moutie Saad, indicated that this medical caravan is part of Morocco’s efforts to promote Moroccan-African relations as a strategic choice. of south-south cooperation, adding that it tends to strengthen the role of civil society in parallel diplomacy with partners on the African continent to achieve the objectives of south-south cooperation agreements.
This multidisciplinary medical caravan which will travel through several other cities and regions of Senegal will benefit some 40,000 people, she stressed.
For his part, Driss Ait Lhaj, president of the Moroccan Association of Visual Care, indicated that this initiative aims to improve medical care services for the benefit of needy Senegalese populations in rural areas, to strengthen access to basic care and to consolidate relations of social cohesion and fraternity with Senegal.
Organized from December 12 to 17 in collaboration with the Municipal Council of the city of Ouarzazate, this Caravan also provides training workshops for Senegalese opticians supervised by Moroccan experts and specialists to strengthen the exchange of skills and the strengthening of partnerships. between the two countries.
A specialized team will also be dedicated to people with albinism in Dakar who will receive specialized medical consultations.
