Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI, the American federal police, whom Donald Trump wants to replace with one of his relatives, announced Wednesday, December 11 that he would resign in January. Posting since August 2017, he informed FBI employees of his decision, the federal police said in a statement. His mandate was supposed to end in 2027. The president -elected American had expressed, in early December, his intention to appoint Kash Patel, a faithful, at the head of the FBI, target of virulent attacks by the conservatives.
“After several weeks of in -depth reflection, I decided that the best thing for the FBI was that I stay in office until the end of the current administration, then to resign”explained Christopher Wray, quoted in the press release. “My goal is to maintain our concentration on our mission, the essential work you do on a daily basis for the American people. In my opinion, it is the best way to avoid drinking the FBI even more in the fray” politics, he added.
Donald Trump had, during his first mandate, appointed Christopher Wray to succeed James Comey, who became his bastard for having investigated his alleged ties with Russia, accused of interference during his election in 2016. But the investigation of the investigation FBI on the Capitole assault by supporters of Donald Trump on January 6, 2021 made the institution a target of unpublished attacks. The rather conservative federal police had so far, always been supported by the political class. These criticisms, in which Donald Trump participated, were notably fed by the search of the home of the president elected in Mar-A-Lago in Florida, in 2022, during which the federal police had seized “top secret” documents.
