do leaked models reveal the design of Nintendo’s future console?

Nintendo will make the event next year with the successor of the Switch. The device will indeed have the difficult task of taking over from one of the most popular consoles of all time, and despite the pressure, the manufacturer has only confirmed two pieces of information: the presentation will take place before the end of the the company’s fiscal year (before March 31, 2025), and Switch games will be compatible on the new model.

For the rest, we have to rely on the rumor mill which, as we approach the event, turns louder and louder. Accessories manufacturers are currently the biggest suppliers in this area, and for good reason: their products must absolutely be present on the shelves the minute the console hits the market.

By browsing Chinese online stores, you can already buy accessories for the future console, such as protective films for its screen or carrying cases.

In the absence of official information on the dimensions of the device, manufacturers rely on CAD files lying around. At the risk of completely failing and having to put everything to rest! But it’s a risk to take so as not to miss the first wave of customers wanting to immediately buy accessories for their new console.

These CAD files allow you to print 3D models to ensure that the accessories are well suited to the dimensions and design of the device. Models which obviously end up in the hands of content creators! Two months ago, Chinese YouTuber “小宁子 XNZ” unveiled such a model which, without too much surprise, looks like a Switch that had taken steroids.

This 3D printing “confirmed” the presence of two USB-C ports on the lower and upper edges, and an additional button on the back of the Joy-Cons. The chain SwitchUP added a layer today, with another even cleaner model, provided by a case manufacturer.

Unfortunately, since these are two models, there is no point in wanting to turn them on to play a small part of Mario Kart on their big screen (8 inches)!

The rumor section is well stocked apart from these 3D models. Nintendo has thus updated the intellectual property notices – which can be displayed from the Switch settings – by adding a reference to “BEE-006”. This code, “BEE”, would be closely linked to the Switch 2: it appeared at the beginning of the year in a component delivery manifest for Nintendo.

Behind “BEE-006” would in fact hide the reference to the cartridges of the future console (“HAC-008” being that of the cartridges of the current Switch). The presence of these two codes next to each other could mean that the two devices would work with the same operating system, according to leakers like CentroLeaks.

This does not mean that the Switch 2 will be limited to the functions of the Switch 1, but that the software base will be the same – perhaps linked to the backward compatibility of the games.

The fine sleuths of Famiboards have for their part delved into the financial results of Foxconn, the Chinese industrial giant which assembles Nintendo consoles. It turns out that in November, Foxconn recorded a 223% increase in revenue compared to last year. A customer obviously received a large order and paid the subcontractor, which explains the sudden increase in revenue.

Obviously, the financial results do not specify who this customer is, but knowing that Foxconn’s turnover is relatively stable in general, this sudden increase is the result of a large order delivered safely. And since there aren’t that many manufacturers who can buy such quantities of electronic products, suspicion naturally falls on Nintendo. This means that stocks of Switch 2 would be present somewhere in the world, while waiting for Nintendo to launch marketing!

Obviously, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt, but as they say, there is no smoke without fire. And as we get closer to the presentation, it will be more and more difficult for Nintendo to contain the indiscretions.
