Six infographics on the health issues of climate change

The National Institute of Public Health of Quebec is launching six infographics to present the health issues arising from climate change. Developed in the context of the VRAC-PARC program, they aim to raise awareness and inform local and regional stakeholders about the health elements to consider in order to equitably adapt to the changing climate. Since 2019, public health departments have been carrying out an assessment of regional vulnerabilities and risks linked to climate change (VRAC) with the aim of designing regional public health climate adaptation plans (PARC).

Populations at risk

Certain population groups are more likely to suffer adverse health consequences from climate change. The first set of infographics presents three:

She explains why climatic hazards tend to affect these groups more. It summarizes both the risk factors associated with exposure, but also with vulnerability. Examples of health effects are also mentioned.

Health determinants

Climate change also has effects on various spheres of life, which has repercussions on human health. They increase the exposure and vulnerability of the population and can therefore worsen social inequalities. The second series of infographics presents three spheres that can influence the health of the population in the context of a changing climate:

For each sphere of life, vulnerability or resilience factors are listed. They should be used to guide concerted actions towards a response to climate risks.
