The deputies of the National Assembly took advantage of the last week of parliamentary work in Quebec to adopt Bill 61 establishing the Mobilité Infra Québec agency.
The legislative document drafted by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Geneviève Guilbault, was adopted by a majority of deputies on Wednesday morning.
The elected representatives of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), the majority at the Salon rouge, spoke out in favor, unlike the opposition. Independent deputies Eric Lefebvre and Youri Chassin abstained from voting.
Bill 61 was tabled by Minister Guilbault last session. Its study in parliamentary committee began in September before accelerating at the end of November. Some amendments have been adopted in the meantime.
François Legault’s government hopes that the establishment of Mobilité Infra Québec will breathe new life into public transportation.
Tabled on the same day as Bill 61, Bill 62 from the Minister responsible for Infrastructure, Jonatan Julien, was adopted on October 8. The two texts were presented jointly on May 9 to reflect the government’s desire to build faster and cheaper.
