Marco Odermatt already ahead, Arnaud Boisset qualified

The first downhill training of the season took place on Tuesday evening and Marco Odermatt is already at the forefront. The Nidwalden took 2nd place in the initial test at Beaver Creek. Arnaud Boisset will be at the start of the event in Colorado.

Without much surprise, Marco Odermatt is in the mix. After his elimination in the first round of the Soelden giant, the latest World Cup winner wants to immediately set the record straight at Beaver Creek. He proved it during the first downhill training by taking 2nd place behind the astonishing Miha Hrobat, 0″61 behind the winner. Just behind at a hundredth, we find the rival of the Nidwalden, Cyprien Sarrazin. In the end, we can almost say that Marco Odermatt won this session since the Slovenian missed a gate, like many runners elsewhere. Justin Murisier (12th at 1″34) is one of them.

Other Swiss skiers also showed themselves to their advantage. Starting with Arnaud Boissetexcellent 8th in this timed test (+1″19). This performance will officially open the gate doors for Friday’s race. Marco Kohler23rd, will also be at the start of the descent on the Birds of Prey. These two men join Marco Odermatt, Justin Murisier, Stefan Rogentin, Franjo von Allmen, Alexis Monney, Livio Hiltbrand et Lars Rösti, already assured of participating in the race even before this training. It should also be noted that Alexis Monney from Friborg also performed well on Tuesday (15th at 1″44). The other Swiss finished further away, beyond the top-20, like Loïc Meillard (31st), who came to get his bearings for the super-G. Other good news, the return from injury of Alexis Pinturault, even if the Frenchman did not force himself.

The last place still to play

There is still a tenth place to be filled in the Swiss ranks. She will either return to Urs Kryenbühlor at Joshua Mettlertwo skiers in great difficulty for this first in the United States. The skier from Unteriberg did not finish this training while the skier from Toggenburg finished in 69th place, more than 4″ behind the Slovenian winner.

To put themselves forward, Urs Kryenbühl and Josua Mettler will now have to wait two more days. The training scheduled for Wednesday has already been canceled. It’s way too hot in Colorado, as 9 degrees was felt at the bottom of the trail. The next session is therefore scheduled for Thursday before getting down to business with the downhill on Friday, the super-G on Saturday and the giant on Sunday. Hoping that other cancellations will not disrupt this program. Remember that last year the two descents planned at Beaver Creek did not take place due to wind and snowfall.
