The American president will also deliver a speech at the National Slavery Museum, in the capital of this former Portuguese colony, which borders the Atlantic Ocean.
On Wednesday, Biden will travel to Lobito, a port city about 500 kilometers south of Luanda, to tout the emblematic investment of his presidency in Africa, the “Lobito Corridor”.
Biden will meet there with the leaders of the countries concerned by this project, namely, in addition to Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Tanzania, according to the White House.
The railway project is intended to transport strategic raw materials such as copper and cobalt to the port of Lobito.
This project is “a real revolution for the United States’ commitment in Africa,” assured John Kirby, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, on Tuesday.
For security reasons, local authorities have declared two public holidays during the visit.
