It was one of those beautiful cool dawns in , with its blue and pink sky on the banks of the Seine, its rising sun over the cathedral. The press from all over the world met at the back, at the foot of the still-scaffolded flying buttresses and the containers of the continuing construction site. Before the grand reopening ceremony on Saturday December 7, Emmanuel Macron made his last site visit to Notre-Dame de Paris this Friday morning.

The Elysée was counting heavily on this event in the midst of political stagnation. It was an opportunity to thank the hundreds of artisans (“companions”) of this giant restoration, present to the tune of 1,300 on site with some major patrons and small donors, but above all to reveal to the media around the world and to the French population the visual shock that this rebirth is supposed to imply, particularly inside the cathedral.
