Moustapha Diakhate is sentenced to two months in prison. Tried yesterday, the former deputy was declared, by the Court of flagrante delictos of Dakar, “guilty of the offenses of insults through a computer system and of speech contrary to good morals”.
In front of the bar, the former president of the Coalition Parliamentary Group Benno bokk yaakaar refuted the accusations against him. Placed under arrest warrant after describing the Senegalese as a “cursed people”, he wanted to clarify the meaning of his words.
“I was invited to a show and I talked about “Gallou doff dou téreu” and “Alkou”. I am accused of insults, which I have never done. To me, “Alkou” means a great misfortune or a curse. Words do not have a fixed meaning, they have uses, and I attribute a particular meaning to them. I have been told that these words have been said 27,000 times, it is not my responsibility. I am not an insulter. What I wanted to say in the show is that those who gave the majority to this party (Pastef) are harming the country, and are harming themselves, as are those who vote for them. “, he said.
The public prosecutor previously requested a one-year prison sentence against Moustapha Diakhaté, including six months, accompanied by a fine of 300,000 CFA francs.
A firm month for Cheikh Thiam
Speaking of Cheikh Thiam alias Ambassador, he was sent to prison for one month. Convicted of spreading false news following his comments in a local YouTube channel, Cheikh Thiam announced “an alleged plot aimed at assassinating personalities by gas poisoning or sniper fire”. Detained since Monday, Cheikh Thiam admitted the facts and expressed regret before the judge.
